Though the correlations he makes to color and music may have been metaphors from his imagination, Kandinsky used music to explore new physical ways to explore the world. Similarly artists Piet Mondrian and Stuart Davis experienced similar act of synesthesia, considering music in conjunction with painting, in works such as Composition VII, Broadway Boogie Woogie and Swing Landscape.
