Research Paper Topic

Write a six-paragraph research paper where you explore how the poem “Harlem” is still relevant to us today.

Have an introduction paragraph / thesis (3 ways the American dream is still deferred today.)

In the body paragraphs explore:

— what the poem’s images mean to you (one body paragraph)

— how the American dream of equal opportunity is still deferred in America or throughout the world (3 body paragraphs).

Discuss at least THREE specific examples of situations where the American dream of equal opportunity is being deferred today. Cite your research sources (Last name of author or, if there is no author, please provide the title of the article) in parenthesis at the end of each thought or passage that you took from the articles you researched. Remember to paraphrase the information in your own words. You must still cite it in-text, in the essay, and you must include the bibliographic information for each article in your Works Cited page.

Have a conclusion paragraph.

Make sure you include a Works Cited page listing the articles you researched.

5. Select 3 articles that illustrate 3 ways in which the American dream of equal opportunity is still postponed (or deferred) or has become difficult to achieve in the United States today.

Your MLA Citation from the article: This is found at the end of the database article. Just copy and paste the citation here.

Summary of one passage from the article:

Your own words — example, case, court case, names of individuals, statistics. (Last name of author of the article).

Example: In the U.S. thirty-five thousand students were denied financial aid based on race (Cabrera).

You are required to use databases from Miami-Dade College. Do not just go to Google! You need the MLA style of citation, and that is provided in the articles in the databases.
