These things are extremely important aspects of a leader: dependability, communication skills, and to be understanding and willing to make changes. In the military, there is always change. Some changes are small, like the immediate supervisor. Others are big changes like I’ve had recently of a change of leadership in four major positions in my unit. These changes all happened within two months and the only thing that made it function correctly was having an effective pass over with the new person and creating a turnover binder. For us, this means having a binder with important information, tasks, and expectations. Having this binder and being able to verbally turn over information and the job is vital to keep the mission running. In addition to the verbal turnover and the written pass down, being able to have an open level of communication with the rest of the unit definitely helps alleviate some of the transitional problems. This prevents rumors and misunderstandings being spread because someone was not clear with how they spoke (Griffin, 2020). There will always be issues when changing a person in a leadership position, but with clear documentation and an open venue for communications, those issues would be small in comparison.
